February is African American History Month
During this month, and throughout the year, we encourage our education community to honor and celebrate the achievements of African Americans. We want to recognize the countless ways in which African Americans have contributed to American culture and how they have led the way in advocating for civil rights, inclusion and racial equity.
A list of resources, lesson plans, and recommended readings for use throughout the month and beyond is available on this post

Thank you, Rafael, @mrrafaelagustin , for sharing your personal story of discovering that you were undocumented. Your journey is a powerful reminder of what people can achieve despite life’s challenges. Your presence, story, and accomplishments are an important representation for our students and the community. Shortly after, students and staff were coming by to ask for a copy of Illegally Yours. It was an honor to have you come and speak to our kids.
We are opening our students’ eyes to a world of possibilities!
Vejar Elementary recently hosted an inspiring Career Day. Professionals from various fields shared their experiences, insights, and the paths they took to achieve their career goals. Students were engaged, curious, and left with a newfound appreciation for the importance of education and hard work.
A HUGE thank you to all the participants who volunteered their time and expertise to make this day a resounding success! Your dedication to shaping the future generation is truly appreciated. We hope the experience was as rewarding for you as it was for our students. We look forward to welcoming you back next year!
