Planning Together for Pomona Unified's Future
Pomona Unified School District is planning for the future as it responds to declining enrollment, financial realities, and the ongoing need to provide students with high-quality educational opportunities and safe, well-maintained schools.
Pomona Unified School District is planning for the future as it responds to declining enrollment, financial realities, and the ongoing need to provide students with high-quality educational opportunities and safe, well-maintained schools.
As part of this planning process, the District is evaluating a range of options to ensure resources are used in the best possible way for students.
Those options may include changes to:
- School attendance boundaries
- Grade configurations
- How school facilities are used
- School consolidation
No decisions have been made. The District believes these important decisions should be informed by data, thoughtful analysis, and the voices of the people who know our schools and community.
Community Input Matters
The School Consolidation & Optimization Advisory Committee is one part of a broader community engagement process.
The School Consolidation & Optimization Advisory Committee is one part of a broader community engagement process.
The District's survey asks families, staff, students, and community members what they value most, what concerns them about potential changes, and what information they need as the District evaluates its options.
Survey results and additional community feedback will be shared with the Advisory Committee and Governing Board and considered alongside enrollment data, financial information, facility needs, academic and program considerations, transportation, equity, and other factors.
School Consolidation & Optimization Advisory Committee
Pomona Unified is forming a School Consolidation & Optimization Advisory of approximately 20 parents, students, employees, and community members.
The Advisory Committee will help the District:
- Review enrollment, financial, facility, program, and other relevant information
- Review and consider community survey results and other public input
- Understand the opportunities and impacts associated with potential options
- Consider the needs of students, families, employees, schools, and the broader community
- Discuss difficult tradeoffs and competing priorities
- Help inform potential recommendations for consideration by the Board of Education
The Advisory Committee is advisory. Final decisions regarding schools rest with the Pomona Unified School District
Transparency will be an important part of this process.
The District will provide regular updates before and after Task Force Advisory Committee meetings and will post meeting information, presentations, resources, community input, and updates on this webpage as the work progresses.
