Pomona Unified Board of Education Adopts Resolution Supporting Proposition 3

(POMONA, CALIF) – The Pomona Unified School District Board of Education adopted Resolution No. 12 on October 14, 2026, establishing the District's official position in support of Proposition 3, the California Children's Education and Health Care Protection Act of 2026, appearing on the November 3 statewide ballot.

Proposition 3 would make permanent existing personal income tax rates on higher-income earners that are currently scheduled to expire after 2030. These revenues support California's State General Fund and factor into the Proposition 98 constitutional funding guarantee for K-12 schools and community colleges.

"Public education depends on a stable and predictable state funding system," said Board President, Dr. Lisa Nashua. "As our District continues to address declining enrollment and increasing costs, we recognize the importance of maintaining the state resources that support educational opportunities for our students."

The District continues to navigate significant fiscal challenges, including declining enrollment, increasing operating costs, and the expiration of one-time state and federal funding. While Proposition 3 does not guarantee additional funding directly to PUSD, the measure addresses the continuation of an existing source of state revenue that helps support public education.

"Our responsibility as a Board is to consider not only the challenges facing our District today, but also the long-term financial conditions that affect our ability to serve students," said Board Vice President, Dr. Roberta Perlman. "This resolution reflects our recognition of the important relationship between California's state budget, school funding, and the educational programs our students depend on."

Resolution No. 12 establishes the Board's official position and authorizes the Superintendent or designee to communicate that position consistent with applicable law.
