For senior Ximena Garcia, perseverance, growth, and community have been at the heart of her journey. Born in Pomona, California, Ximena spent several years living between the United States and Mexico, experiences that helped shape her resilience and determination. When she returned to Pomona Unified in eighth grade and enrolled at Fremont Academy of Engineering and Design, she found a supportive environment that encouraged her to grow with confidence both inside and outside the classroom.
As a newcomer, she embraced every opportunity available to her, discovering programs, clubs, and activities that made her feel connected and supported. What began as a shy student hesitant to speak up soon transformed into a confident leader involved in nearly every corner of campus life. Today, she is active in AVID, CSF, ASB, Latina Club, Photography Club, Graphic Design, and countless volunteer events, becoming a familiar face at school activities and community events.
Her passion for medicine and science began at a young age, inspired by her mother’s experience as a nurse and her lifelong love for math and science classes. This fall, she will attend University of California, Irvine to major in biology as she pursues her dream of becoming a doctor. She credits AVID for helping guide her through the college process and showing her the many opportunities available for her future.
Among her proudest accomplishments is not only earning a place among the top students in her class, but also becoming the confident person she once never imagined she could be. Through every challenge, she found strength in the support of her family, friends, teachers, and especially her late grandfather, whose belief in her continues to inspire her success.
As graduation approaches, she reflects on the sacrifices, struggles, and hard work that brought her to this moment. Her message to younger students is simple but powerful: believe in yourself, ask questions, and never be afraid to chase your dreams. She hopes that one day, through her future career in medicine, she can give back to others the same encouragement and support that helped shape her own journey.
