Adult School Spotlight: Pharmacy Tech Students in Action

With just 8 weeks until graduation, students in the Pharmacy Technician program are sharpening their skills through hands-on training. During a recent class, students were observed preparing an IV (intravenous) medication for a patient, compounding a pain-relief ointment, and accurately counting pills while filling prescription bottles.

These real-world activities build the precision, safety practices, and confidence needed in professional pharmacy settings. As they near completion, students are gaining the practical experience that prepares them for entry into the healthcare workforce.

CTE Corner: Manufacturing in Action

Students in the Manufacturing pathway at Fremont Academy of Engineering & Design are strengthening their skills through hands-on projects that emphasize precision, technique, and craftsmanship. During a recent lesson, one student was routering the edge of a board to create a smooth, rounded finish, while another was carefully inspecting a completed tic-tac-toe project using dial calipers to ensure accurate measurements.

Through activities like these, students learn the importance of attention to detail, proper use of industry tools, and quality control—key components in manufacturing and production environments. These real-world applications help prepare students for careers in the skilled trades and advanced manufacturing fields.

ROP Roundup: Industry Support Drives Student Learning

On Wednesday, April 25th, Athens Services, a family-owned business dedicated to serving its community, donated two vehicles to San Antonio ROP students from the Career Technical Education (CTE) programs at the Fairplex—“Big Mack,” a large dump truck, and a Chevy Silverado.

This generous donation provides students with hands-on access to real, industry-level vehicles, allowing them to practice diagnostics, maintenance, fabrication and repair skills in a setting that mirrors the workforce. Experiences like this help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application, better preparing students for in-demand careers.

In addition to the donation, Athens also brought their Human Resources team on-site to support students with job applications—offering a direct connection to employment opportunities and reinforcing the pathway from training to career.
