Student artwork that celebrates Black history recently graced the walls of a La Verne senior community.
The Gallery at Hillcrest hosted a display of art created by young artists at Ganesha High School in Pomona.

The show, which opened in February during Black History Month, ended Thursday, March 26.
Hillcrest, a nonprofit senior community, has its own gallery.
The exhibit, called “Acknowledgement of Influence,” had portraits and graphic art saluting famous Black figures, from Etta James to Muhammad Ali.
“My advanced art students have been working very hard on their creations, as well as the essays each will present to explain their piece,” Ganesha art teacher Kevin Tharpe said in a news release before the show began.
“Some of my past students who have graduated have returned to tell me how much participating in the gallery impacted them, Tharpe said in the release. “Not only through their artistic expressions, but in building confidence, speaking in front of an audience, describing their motivations and technique.”
The Gallery at Hillcrest is at 2705 Mountain View
Drive.
