Career Readiness at Work: Preparing Students & Adults for What’s Next

Our Career Readiness Department is creating meaningful opportunities across the district.

The Career Techs at Garey High School invited a firefighter to facilitate a presentation in the Career Center for students interested in this line of work.

Adult and Career Education’s Pharmacy Tech students shared their skills with Village Academy’s Health Support CTE class.

Our department’s community sector also expanded outreach by attending and sharing our programs at local events, and presenting at the monthly Parent University workshops. Parents were so excited, they requested a field trip to visit our Adult & Career Education campus which occurred December 4th!

San Antonio ROP spring classes at the Fairplex Learning and Development Center are now open for registration, including Automotive, Urban Farming, Child Development, Welding, and Green Utilities. Before winter break rolls around, make sure to get your student registered and prepared for their future!

The College, Career, and Workforce Development Task Force meets monthly to provide updates and insights on preparing students for college, careers, and the workforce. This month’s meeting featured three presenters: Fernando Meza, Assistant Superintendent of Pupil & Community Services at Pomona Unified; Reina Flores-Hansen, Project Director III with the Career Technical Education Unit at LACOE; and Mariela Flores and Roberto Ortiz from the Americas Job Center of California (AJCC), who shared resources and strategies to support students’ career pathways.
