Norma Torres Newsletter

Dear Neighbors,

This month, our community experienced a rise in discrimination and ICE raids in the Inland Empire and Los Angeles. That’s why I joined my congressional colleagues and community leaders to demand answers from the Department of Homeland Security about ICE’s unlawful detention of immigrant families and citizens—an unacceptable abuse of power that blocks oversight and breaks the law. I’ll continue standing up for our community, and bringing a voice to the many families being affected by the President’s discriminatory immigrant enforcement efforts.

Although our communities are facing serious difficulties under the Trump Administration, we are still managing to make progress on important regional issues. We recently celebrated the dedication of the Pomona North Station as part of the Gold Line, a key step in expanding economic opportunity and public transit ahead of the 2028 Olympics, with the goal of extending service to Ontario Airport.

In recognition of Gun Violence Awareness Month, I joined students advocating for safer communities and supported local entrepreneurs at the Dream Big Small Business Forum. I also introduced the Taxpayer Protection Act to ensure California gets its fair share of federal funds and to protect taxpayers from political retaliation.

My office's casework team is here to help anyone in our community affected by recent actions or want to plan ahead as we continue fighting for justice and accountability.

Holding the Department of Homeland Security Accountable of Blocking Oversight

This month I alongside Representatives Jimmy Gomez, Luz Rivas, and Lou Correa, visited the Roybal Federal Building demanding answers about ICE detaining immigrant families, including moms and children, after routine check-ins. This abuse of power is unacceptable.

The Department of Homeland Security is breaking federal law by blocking oversight efforts by me and my colleagues. This is not a misunderstanding — it’s a violation that demands accountability. I am calling on Secretary Noem to launch an immediate investigation and uphold the law, and a General Accountability Office investigation into the illegal use of taxpayer money.

California Delegation Standing United Against ICE Injustice in Los Angeles

I was proud to join members of California’s Congressional Delegation and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to speak out against the Trump Administration’s unauthorized deployment of ICE, National Guard, and Marine forces into California communities and the unjust action to detain our very own Senator Alex Padilla for asking a question. If you or someone you know has been affected by recent enforcement actions, my office is here to help. Please reach out for assistance with casework

Pomona North Station Dedication Ceremony

This month we celebrated an incredible milestone at the Foothill Gold Line dedication ceremony for the Pomona North Station— a project years in the making! From my early days on city council to now serving in Congress, it has been an honor to advocate for this vision. This achievement reflects years of hard work, strong partnerships, and a steadfast commitment to expanding public transit in our region. Especially ahead of the 2028 Olympics. I want to thank everyone who made this project possible.

Looking ahead, I remain dedicated to pushing the Gold Line extension all the way to Ontario Airport, ensuring even greater connectivity and opportunity for our communities.

Standing with Students for Gun Violence Awareness: Boba Not Bullets

Image

In recognition of National Gun Violence Awareness Month, I had the privilege of joining students from the Inland Empire to raise our voices and advocate for change. Gun violence has impacted far too many lives, and it’s clear that young people are leading the charge for change with courage, powerful stories, and a deep commitment to building a safer future for all. A special thank you to Teaspoon Rancho Cucamonga for hosting this meaningful conversation.

Dream Big Forum Empowers California Entrepreneurs

Image

Immigrant-owned businesses are a vital pillar of our local economy and a powerful reflection of the American Dream. At this month's Dream Big: Small Business Empowerment Forum, hosted by LAVA Force, I was honored to join a resilient and inspiring community of entrepreneurs. In times of uncertainty, these small business owners—especially from immigrant backgrounds—continue to lead with determination and hope. I remain committed to building an economy that uplifts every dream and supports those working tirelessly to turn vision into reality.

Introducing Taxpayer Protection Act

This past week, I introduced the Taxpayer Protection Act to ensure states like California get a fair return on the billions we send to Washington. For too long, we’ve contributed more than we receive—$83 billion more each year—while facing threats of politically motivated funding cuts. We are the fourth largest economy in the world.

This bill establishes a Donor State Protection Trust Fund, ties federal funding to actual tax contributions, and prohibits retaliation based on politics. It’s about fairness, accountability, and making sure your tax dollars work for you—not against you.
