Spring Break Community Message - 2024

SPRING BREAK COMMUNITY MESSAGE – 2024

As we begin our 2024 Spring Break, I would like to share with you some of the many successes and opportunities going on in our schools.

The district’s administrators, counselors, and teachers have all been recognized for excellence. Ten PUSD schools have been designated Recognized ASCA Model Programs (RAMP) joining our three other schools previously honored. Only 56 schools in California currently have this designation, and 23% are now in PUSD.

Lilia Fuentes, PUSD’s Deputy Superintendent, was named the Los Angeles County Cabinet Member of the Year, and Cesar Casarrubias, Director of Pupil Services, was honored as the California Association of School Counselors Administrator of the Year.

PUSD makes it a priority to support our students. As a result, we offer 37 Transitional Kindergarten classes for all 4-year old students. Free after-school care is open for all TK-6th grade students at all 24 elementary schools.

When students come to the Pomona Unified School District (PUSD), they are welcomed to participate in exciting programs that stretch their imagination. We offer E-Sports and competitions at every high school. Our elementary schools have won awards at this year’s Los Angeles County Science & Engineering Fair. One of our students at Harrison Elementary was the “Top Scorer in the World” on the Achieve 3000 Literacy app.

We support well-rounded students, with classes in Robotics, Art and Music, and Sports. Our Ganesha High School Soccer Team won back-to-back League Championships. The Garey High School Girls’ Basketball Team has won three League Championships in a row, and the Diamond Ranch High School Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team won League, CIF, and State Championships.

Whatever your student dreams, it is possible at PUSD’s schools. We are proud of all that our students have accomplished, and we know that everything is because of your support. Our families are an integral part of education and we thank you for all that you have done for our schools this year.

I hope that you, our students, and our teachers and staff will relax and enjoy this Spring Break, and that you will take well-deserved pride in all that we have already accomplished together.

Sincerely,

Darren Knowles

Superintendent
