On March 13, 2020, your entire District had to shift to meet the needs of your students. Within 48 hours, many of these tasks were accomplished. The impact on our communities has been vast and the resilience of School Districts has never been more evident. Often lost is the role that public school play not only in education, but the overall well-being of children and their families. Schools are the common denominator in the community and a focal point for resources.
As you well know, the meals provided in your Distinct are often the only nutrition many of your scholars receive. During this pandemic, with your support, the Pomona Unified Food and Nutrition Service Department was able to continue to provide meals through innovative meal service. Working together, we made sure that students would receive meals while keeping staff safe. Even during a pandemic, you were able to meet their needs.
As access to food became more critical, your district responded further to this urgent need. Working in partnership with the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program and Gold Star Foods, you provided food boxes totaling 74K pounds for those most in need.
Thank you for your commitment, stewardship, and partnership.
