The Metropolitan Water District is Going Online to Help Students and Teachers!
Are you are looking to add some fun new ideas to your classroom curriculum? The Metropolitan Water District is your one stop shop for everything from field trips to guest classroom readers.
Online Story Time
Pre-kindergarten through third grade educators can sign up for online story time. MWD offers a variety of water themed stories to choose from.
Online and Virtual Field Trips
Students from fourth grade and above have two different virtual tours options to learn about water transportation throughout Southern California. You can learn more about these virtual tours on the MWD website. Metropolitan’s online field trip options offer students a look at Diamond Valley Lake, Southern California’s largest aqueduct, as well as the Regional Recycled Water Purification Center. Students will learn about water awareness, aqueducts, conservation and recycling.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
The water awareness merit badge program teaches the Scouts about Southern California's watersheds, water distribution and water quality initiatives along with inspiring them to take water conservation actions. Metropolitan will provide the troops with kits that include worksheets, fact sheets and virtual reality goggles. The Scouts will participate online with water industry experts to learn about careers in the water industry, experience virtual facility tours, and learn to calculate home and school water conservation audits.
Metropolitan offers presentations that cover a wide range of topics including water conservation and the water cycle. Each presentation can be customized to fit the needs of the teacher. Presentations are offered to classes from pre-kindergarten to college.
For more information, and to register for the programs listed above, please go to the MWD education website. Students and educators in MWD’s service area are able to participate.
