Student Support Services

Supporting Parents, Students, and Teachers in Elementary Schools

We provide support to parents of students (K-5), teachers, and school sites to promote safety and success in the school environment.

Who We Serve

Students in K-5 Elementary Schools, in a General Education classroom who have been referred to Student and Family Support Services (School Mental Health). Each referral is reviewed to determine if the student fits the SSS Criteria.

What We Do

In collaboration with PUSD's Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) the Student Support Specialists use a trauma-informed behavioral approach to create support plans and provide supplemental SEL lessons to students in PUSD's elementary schools.

Hello! My name is Jose Duenas and this is my third year as a Student Support Specialist for Pomona Unified School District’s Student and Family Support Services. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a guiding hand for our students who may need individualized support to reach their full potential and be successful in class. My passion to support students stems from being able to relate to their experiences due to my life challenges and successes. When I am not supporting students, I enjoy spending time with my children, gardening, and reading all sorts of books.

Hi there!

My name is Stephanie Aguayo and being a Student Support Specialist at PUSD’s Student and Family Support Services has given me a great connection to the community of Pomona. I love getting to know the students, parents, and staff of this district and enjoy helping students and parents learn about their emotional and mental health. For me, being a Student Support Specialist means being in your student's corner when they are facing challenges, being their cheerleader to celebrate their successes, and being their reminder that they can succeed and reach their full potential. When I am not at work, you can find me reading, singing or dancing, or exploring with my dog.

Hola!

My name is Monique Acevedo, I work for Student & Family Support Services as a Student Support Specialist. I am a PUSD Alumni and have been working for the school district for 10 years. My time in the district has been so meaningful because I have been able to connect with staff from different schools, parents, and students. I enjoy working with elementary students because they have such beautiful imaginations, kind hearts, and contagious laughter. As a Student Support Specialist I help students who are facing difficulties in their lives due to trauma or anxiety. I advocate for my students and help them communicate their needs so that they feel safe enough to excel in all aspects of their lives. During my spare time I enjoy being outdoors, caring for my animals, spending time with family & friends, and watching movies.
