LA Public Health investigates measles outbreak

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced on April 22, 2019 that it is investigating a number of reports of measles in the county. These include five confirmed cases of measles that occurred after international travel. Four of the cases are linked.

These five are the first cases of measles confirmed by Public Health among county residents and the first cases of transmission within the county in 2019.

Cal State LA has been identified by Public Health as one of several sites in the county where measles exposure may have occurred. The potential exposure took place in the University Library on April 11, 2019, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Public Health has determined that there is no known risk related to measles at the library at this time.

Public Health urges residents who have not been fully immunized against measles with two doses of the measles immunization to contact their healthcare provider to get fully immunized to better protect their individual health and to prevent the spread of measles to others.

Infected people can infect those around them before they have symptoms and know they are infected.
